Preparations for the Installation of Rolling Bearings
As is known to all a good beginning is half success. It means that the beginning of doing something is rather important. Of course, a good beginning requires good preparations. As you install bearings, the preparations are quite necessary because good preparations may prolong the life span of the bearings, otherwise, bad preparations may lead to the undesirable result. The following are some important preparation steps which you can refer to when necessary.
(1) Before installing bearings, you should examine the quality of the axle, bracket, and some relevant parts with appropriate measuring tool according to the specified technical requirement on the design drawing. Quality requirements may include dimensional accuracy, accuracy of shape, and surfaceness, etc.
(2) Damages, rust or solid particles (like abrasive dust, sand grain, clay) on the surface of the mounting surface will not only cause the difficulty in installing bearings, but also will lead to the incorrect install locations. Moreover, solid particles which go into bearings will grind the working surface when bearings begin rotation. Therefore, it is necessary to examine carefully before the installation. If you find any problem, you should handle it as soon as you can. For example, you can use some kind of materials to remove the rust staining, and then polish bearings withcrocus cloth. If there are solid particles and dirt, you should clean them to ensure that all the parts are all clean to be installed.
(3) Wash the mounting surface with gasoline, kerosene, toluene, or xylene, and then dry it. In order to make it more convenient for installation and operation, you'd better coat a layer of lubricating oil.
(4) The moment before your installation, you should open the bearing packaging and immerse the bearings into the above mentioned liquids. Meanwhile, you'd better turn them over. Making sure that the package oil on the surface of bearing cage, rolling element and ball track is cleaned thoroughly.
(5) Attention: those sealed bearings should not be cleaned according to the above preparation means. You should keep the sealed parts to maintain its origin.
